Class is held at The Potter's Shop and on Mondays, November 20 to December 18 from 6:00-8:30pm.

Previous wheel throwing experience is required in either a beginners class or studio hours.  Must be able to center 3lb of clay with ease.

It has come time for you to move onto the next level in your quest to conquer the potter’s wheel.  You have learned to center a 3-4 lbs of clay confidently and pull your walls up evenly.  In our intermediate pottery wheel class you will refine your throwing skills and work on more sophisticated projects.  Pottery students will learn techniques to throw bigger and taller pots.

The curriculum will focus on the following:

  • Bottle Forms
  • How to throw Sets - 2-4 Nesting Bowls
  • Combined Forms
  • Large Plates (8+ inches)
  • More Surface Applications (Mishima, Stencil, and transfer applications)
  • Glazing larger vessels, pouring techniques added onto dunking, splattering, and brushing techniques

Classes will consist of 5 consecutive pottery wheel sessions.

Each student will get a new 25lb bag of clay at the start of the first week.  Additional bags will be available to purchase at 35% off retail if needed.  Otherwise pug clay will be available for free.

The first 5 sessions will be actual instruction and working on the potter's wheel.  The final week will be glazing your pieces.

Class fee includes unlimited use of clay during class time and the ability to keep 10 finished pieces.  ($5 each additional piece)

You will be working with "real" stoneware clays and glazes.  It is the same materials we use in the production of our high-fired stoneware.  Everything you make will be food, microwave, dishwasher, and oven safe.

5 week adult classes range in size from 4 -10 people.  Class may be canceled last minute due to low enrollment.  Payment is required at the time of sign-up to secure a spot in the class.

Please wear appropriate clothing for getting clay on, trim your fingernails, tie back long hair and remove any hand accessories.

Finished pottery pieces not picked up in 90 days will be discarded.

Cancellation Policy:

Cancellations and session changes are permitted up to 14 days prior to the start of the session.  Due to the limited number of spaces available in each class, students who must cancel from 14 to 7 days prior to the start of the session will be refunded 50% of the class fee. No refunds are permitted on cancellations less than 7 days prior to the start of the session. We reserve the right to cancel or merge any of our classes based on enrollment. All students that may be affected by these changes will be notified, and those students will have the right to cancel their registration for a full refund or receive a credit for the next class session.
