Face vessels or Ugly Jugs have a lot of history throughout the pottery world. Originally a vessel of spirituality and eventually used simply to scare children away from alcohol, face forms are very expressive and multi-purposed.
Class Prerequisites: Comfortable throwing 3 lbs or more. Competent with slipping and scoring. Understanding of work moisture control.
Learning Objectives:
Day 1: Assign shelves and clay. Demonstration throwing larger cylinders and in depth talk on facial proportions. Pinch and alter cylinders to create general face.
Day 2: Refining faces on leather hard pieces. Demonstration on modeling techniques. Optional demonstration on throwing bottled forms
Day 3: Last day to finish wet clay. Demo on colored slips / engobes. Colors will be brushed onto work. Open studio work time to finish all work refinement and sign all pieces. All pieces remaining on the student’s shelf will be fired!
