Discover new techniques with Andrew Linderman. Learn to throw and shape vessels from the inside out, maintaining texture, and creating pots that are “full of breath” in this two day workshop.
Day 1: Today’s goal will be to get used to throwing and shaping vessels from the inside out, maintaining texture, and creating pots that are “full of breath”. We will also explore pulling handles directly off of mugs.
9:00 am Start and Introductions
9:15 Demos (begin simple)
Cups/tumblers and mugs: faceting and other textures, throwing with a jug stick and/or interior rib.
9:45 Participants throw 2-4 cups/mugs for handling after lunch
10:45 Demo bowl: Facets and another texture; considerations for containment, presentation, function and volume.
11:30 Demo Request (Pitcher, Flask, Teapot, pourover?)
12:15 pm LUNCH BREAK!
1:00 Demo trimming cups and mugs on a soft chuck
1:30 Participants trim cups and mugs on their own soft chucks
2:15 Demo handles pulled directly from mugs
2:30 Participants pull handles from glass/plastic jar/cup – Fun!

3:15 Finish Demo request
5:00 Wrap-Up
Day 2: Today’s goal will be applying yesterday’s concepts to more complex or difficult pieces. Participants will get to combine multiple pieces
9:00 am Demo Oval, Curvy Vase (a bigger one, Altering after throwing) or a Pitcher
9:30 Participants make their own oval vases/ Pitchers
10:15 Demonstrate single compound vessel (can take requests): combined vase, Pourover, flask, 2-part bottle/cruet, teapot, jar
11:00 Participants begin their “compound vessel”
12:00 pm Finish oval vase/Pitcher from AM
12:15 LUNCH BREAK

2:45 Independent practice for participants
Participants have independent practice time on any of the techniques demonstrated throughout the workshop. This time is meant to be a bit more self-directed so I can circulate among the participants and help them one-on-one and so they can finish making the pieces we’ve made throughout the workshop.
