Amaco Crawls are an excellent way to add visual interest and character to ceramic pieces, transforming ordinary surfaces into captivating works of art. These glazes are truly unique, offering distinctive, one-of-a-kind finishes that set each piece apart. Highly versatile, they allow artists to explore a wide range of effects by layering Crawls over AMACO glazes or underglazes, resulting in endless creative possibilities. In addition, Amaco Crawls help create natural depth and texture, enhancing the tactile and visual appeal of any ceramic work.

What is crawling?
Traditionally seen as a flaw - these glazes are made to embrace glaze crawl. Crawling occurs when the glaze pulls back from the surface during firing, creating a textured, uneven finish that reveals the underlying clay body or other glaze layers.

Best Uses for Crawls:
Ideal for larger forms or those with significant surface area: The glaze requires space to develop its crawling effect, which works well on bowls, plates, and vases.

FAQs about Crawls:
- Apply to Cone 04 Bisqueware.
- Fire to Cone 5-Cone 6.
- These crawl glazes are considered food safe when layered over an Amaco Celadon.

Applications:
Apply 1-4 even coats of glaze to cone 04 bisque. Allow each coat to dry almost fully, but before any significant cracking occurs. Crawl glazes will develop hairline cracks as they dry; handle with care. For added durability before firing, layer over an AMACO Celadon glaze or underglaze.

More coats create larger glaze dots, while thinner coats produce a finer bead effect. Increased coats will produce more cracks. Fire to cone 5-6 for best results.

Due to variations in raw materials used during manufacturing, we recommend firing glazed test tiles before using each new batch number of glaze.
