Making a teapot is considered a milestone for many potters, and it’s often presented as an intellectual challenge. Teapots are an exercise in designing a three-dimensional structure as well as studying function, proportion, and surface decoration.

This is a step-by-step class on how to make a teapot. Making a clay teapot is actually quite a simple process and extremely satisfying. Plus, at the end of it, you get to enjoy a nice cup of tea….  Perfect!

This is an intermediate class and you must know how to center at least three pounds of clay. 

Throwing the components of the teapot. You will be throwing three different teapots in this class each one a different shape

Attaching the teapot components and diving into proper spout alignment. Cleaning up the teapots.  

Glazing and different glazing techniques 

Each student will get a new 25lb bag of clay at the start of the first week.  Additional bags will be available to purchase at 35% off retail if needed.  Otherwise pug clay will be available for free.

The first 4 sessions will be actual instruction and working on the potter's wheel.  The final week will be glazing your pieces.

Class fee includes unlimited use of clay during class time and the ability to keep 3 finished pieces.  ($5 each additional piece) 

You will be working with "real" stoneware clays and glazes.  It is the same materials we use in the production of our high-fired stoneware.  Everything you make will be food, microwave, dishwasher, and oven safe.

5 week adult classes range in size from 4 -10 people.  Class may be canceled last minute due to low enrollment.  Payment is required at the time of sign-up to secure a spot in the class.

Please wear appropriate clothing for getting clay on, trim your fingernails, tie back long hair and remove any hand accessories.

Finished pottery pieces not picked up in 90 days will be discarded.

 

Cancellation Policy:

Cancellations and session changes are permitted up to 14 days prior to the start of the session.  Due to the limited number of spaces available in each class, students who must cancel from 14 to 7 days prior to the start of the session will be refunded 50% of the class fee. No refunds are permitted on cancellations less than 7 days prior to the start of the session. We reserve the right to cancel or merge any of our classes based on enrollment. All students that may be affected by these changes will be notified, and those students will have the right to cancel their registration for a full refund or receive a credit for the next class session.
